The Toddler Montessori Classroom at Srim Academy

Ages 13 Months to 3 Years | Gentle Beginnings for a Lifetime of Learning

At Srim Academy, our Toddler classroom offers a nurturing, home-like environment where our youngest learners begin their journey toward independence, exploration, and self-discovery. Rooted in Montessori philosophy and supported by Waldorf-inspired rhythms, nature-based experiences, and spiritual values, the toddler environment is carefully prepared to meet the developmental needs of the whole child—body, mind, and spirit.

Independence Through Practical Life

Toddlers are naturally driven to “do it myself.” Our classroom supports this emerging independence with child-sized materials and activities like hand washing, dressing frames, food preparation, and cleaning up after meals. These everyday routines promote confidence, motor development, and a sense of belonging.

 Language Development

Language blossoms in the toddler years. Through rich spoken vocabulary, songs, storytelling, and one-on-one conversations, children are immersed in meaningful language that supports expression, listening, and social connection.

 Sensory Exploration

Toddlers learn through their senses. Our environment offers open-ended materials made of natural textures like wood, cloth, and metal. Children explore size, shape, sound, and motion as they build their understanding of the world.

Social-Emotional Growth

With gentle adult guidance, toddlers begin to develop empathy, patience, and cooperative behavior. Through modeling and consistent routines, they learn how to express emotions appropriately and build secure, trusting relationships.

 Rhythm, Movement & Music

Inspired by Waldorf education, our toddler classroom includes simple daily rhythms, songs, verses, and gentle movement activities. These predictable patterns provide emotional security and help children feel safe and grounded.

 Nature and Outdoor Exploration

Toddlers at Srim Academy spend meaningful time outdoors—gardening, walking on the grass, playing in the mud kitchen, or observing birds and insects. These moments awaken awe, support physical development, and create a sense of peace.

Spiritual and Inner Life

Even the youngest children have an inner life. Through daily rituals like lighting a candle, gathering for circle time, or practicing silence, toddlers begin to experience calm, reverence, and gratitude. Our values-based approach honors each child's spirit and fosters a quiet joy in being.

 Practical Life

Children build independence, coordination, and confidence through real-life tasks like pouring, sweeping, flower arranging, and food preparation. These meaningful experiences lay the foundation for responsibility, focus, and a love of purposeful work.

Imaginative Play

Where does food come from? How do they get to our kitchens? What sorts of livelihoods do people choose, and why? Who are our community helpers? We'll explore all these concepts about the world around us in our imaginative play area, complete with a checkout counter, kitchen, ice cream store and costume dress-up area.
